5.0 out of 5 stars Still the most reliable blood pressure tester, March 8, 2009

This review is from: LifeSource UA-100 Home Aneroid Blood Pressure Monitor (Health and Beauty)
I own several different electronic blood pressure testers, and each of them gives a different value when I test my blood pressure. Some register higher and others lower. It can be confusing and cause problems.

Some time back I rushed off to an emergency hospital thinking my blood pressure had gone through the roof, because my expensive new electronic tester showed my blood pressure kept going up every few minutes.

All that had gone up was my systolic pressure because of the panic and fear caused by the wrong diastolic reading on the machine.

With the old fashioned sphygmomanometer I can always see very quickly where my blood pressure is at. I can soon tell when it has gone excessively high, and I don't have the fear of waiting while the electronic tester pumps and repumps and slowly ticks down to reveal a high blood pressure.

Talk about white coat hypertension? I think these electronic testers cause it more than sitting in a doctors... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't go wrong here!, March 24, 2009
This review is from: LifeSource UA-100 Home Aneroid Blood Pressure Monitor (Health and Beauty)
In my opinion this is a great little, all-in-one blood pressure monitor. I've been a licensed nursing assistant in Connecticut, an ER technician in North Carolina and a licensed EMT in Texas. I've taken plenty of blood pressure readings...including my own.

This set is well made and as accurate as you'd get in a hospital. It's a well-invested $25. And it's easy to take your own BP. The average-sized adult cuff will comfortably fit most adults.

I'm a medically untrained person who was just sent into the market for a blood pressure monitor. My first impulse was to purchase an automatic device, but after reading all the reviews I concluded that apparently they're not very accurate and that the doctors and nurses tended to review (i.e. purchase) the manual models.

Now this specific monitor is directed at home users; it's less expensive than most others and already includes a sewed- in stethoscope. The cuff also has a D- loop design, making it possible for a person to take his own blood pressure without assistance - that is something that the high end cuffs don't necessarily have, as they're intended for use by a professional on a patient.

The quality is so-so. The cuff is made out of nylon (which does crackle as another reviewer notes, although I didn't think it interfered with the reading), the valve on the pump is a little hard to turn, and the stethoscope is very, very uncomfortable. You can bend it... Read more
