Facts About Blood Pressure

Your heart is your most important organ, and it's a good idea to know how well it's doing. With Omron home blood pressure monitors, you consistently get an accurate picture of your heart's health.

One in three adults suffer from high blood pressure in America. This condition can lead to heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, and blindness. With the Omron 10 SERIES upper arm blood pressure monitor, you can monitor your blood pressure at home, and with the help of your physician, take steps to decrease your risk of heart disease. A healthy heart combined with a healthy lifestyle will help increase your chances for a long, active life.

Chart

View this chart to learn more about what the numbers mean.

What the Numbers Mean
Understanding your readings is easy with the Omron 10 SERIES upper arm blood pressure monitor. The easy-to-read screen displays your readings in large font and labels each number with a tab along the side.

Systolic Pressure is the top number on the display. It's the pressure created as your heart contracts to pump blood throughout the body.

Diastolic Pressure is the bottom number on the display. It's the pressure between beats, when your heart relaxes.
These numbers combine to give you your blood pressure reading (systolic over diastolic pressure).

How to Monitor + Tips
Your blood pressure numbers often change. For instance, your blood pressure in the morning can be significantly different than at night, when you visit a doctor's office, or after exercising. By using an Omron 10 SERIES upper arm blood pressure monitor at home, you're able to detect changes in your blood pressure any time you want.

Monitoring at Home is Easy
To ensure an accurate reading, do not measure your blood pressure within 30 minutes of:

  • Exercising
  • Eating
  • Smoking
  • Drinking Alcohol
  • Bathing
Place the blood pressure arm cuff on your left arm and sit quietly for approximately five minutes with both feet flat on the floor. Then, when you are ready to test, simply press the start button and the Omron monitor will do the rest.

What's in the Box
One Omron 10 SERIES upper arm blood pressure monitor (BP-785), one ComFit™ Cuff, one English/Spanish instruction manual, one Quick Start Guide, one AC adaptor, and one storage case.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Blood Pressure Monitor (Physician Review), January 30, 2011

*****
I got this blood pressure monitor for my husband's use--he is a physician with high blood pressure. He was not interested in using it to monitor his own blood pressure, but was very interested in using it in his clinic, as he had the manual type (called a sphygmomanometer) and his nurse was showing signs of carpal tunnel syndrome from manually pumping it up for each patient. So I agreed that he could use it there if he would write a review for me. Although this will not give feedback on the use of this monitor for individual use, I think that the review by a physician will be worthwhile and add something to the many reviews already published here. Here is his review:

"We just started using the Omron BP785, Series 10, blood pressure monitor in our medical clinic. We have tried other automatic blood pressure monitors before and were not satisfied as the readings were erratic at times. We have been impressed with the accuracy and ease of use of the Omron... Omron Series 10 blood pressure monitor. 3 stars

Not as useful/cost effective as the older/simpler models despite the wiz bang enhancements. I have been an Omron user for about 10 years (7 series)from the time that consumer magazines rated their units as tops in accuracy. Arrhythmia or any pulse irregularity will cause problems with many other units, but not the Omron, either the older or the newer models. So what has changed? The display size and the white on black digits are indeed more readable, but the old plain LCD were not much worse. The comfort cuff at first I thought it would be more easy to put on. Its not. The thumb "guide" panel is positioned all wrong, if you put your thumb on the panel, the air tube winds up closer to the outside of the elbow as opposed to the inside where its supposed to be. The air tube length is short, but it is exactly the same length as the old units used to have. The preformed circular shape initially makes you think that putting it on... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice BP monitor for the right user, but a poor manual, January 24, 2011
This review is from: Omron BP785 10 Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor, Black/white (Health and Beauty)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
This monitor appears to be a high quality device. The device's memory capabilities allow it to store 100 sets of measurement values for each of two users, plus 8 weeks worth of weekly averages for morning and evening readings for each of two users.

As one might expect of a device with fairly elaborate options like those, it has a somewhat complex and non-intuitive user interface. This monitor would be overkill for someone who's only interested in making an occasional spot-check of his or her blood pressure, and will likely be a source of frustration for anyone who's not comfortable with high-tech gadgets.

Beyond that, my only complaint with the unit is its user manual. This is a 50-page booklet, and you'll want to keep it on hand if you intend to use any of the monitor's options beyond the most basic. Unfortunately, it's quite badly written. In no particular order, here are some of my peeves with the manual:

The user is instructed to press the SET... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars wrist blood pressure monitor, December 15, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Panasonic EW3006S Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor (Health and Beauty)
This wrist BP cuff was exactly what I was looking for. Directions were simple and it is easy to use. Holding my wrist, palm side up, anywhere between my abdomen and chest area seems to work fine. The first wrist BP cuff I bought at a store would not work unless held against my chest over my heart, in exactly the right spot, and then it only worked once. My wrist circumference is 8-1/4 inches, so I was concerned about it fitting, but no worries there. My dentist's office uses 3 different ones and told me this one was their favorite, even though it was the less expensive one. The BP readings are right inline with the dentist and physician office. I would recommend this wrist BP cuff to anyone who must take their own BP due to the ease of use, its accuracy, and the inexpensive price. Plus, I would not hesitate to purchase it from Amazon.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Product is A Lifesaver, December 9, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Panasonic EW3006S Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor (Health and Beauty)
I purchased this product in early November 2009 after being diagnosed with hyper tension. The directions were clear. I started using this product immediaitely. On November 26, 2009 I had taken my high blood pressure medicine in the morning. My reading was 144/84 . In the afternoon I did not feel right. I used this item to check my blood pressue. The reading was 213/110. I took a second reading. The second reading was the about the same. I mmediately went to the emergency room at the hospital. The hospital confirmed my very high blood pressure and began immediate treatment. I was subsequently admitted to the hospital. Without this device I would not have known how serious the situation was. I continued to use the devise after I returned from the hospital. I highly recommend this item. The original batteries did not last long and I replaced them almost immediately with Alkaline AAA Batteries. The replacement batteries are working fine.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, November 15, 2008
By

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Panasonic EW3006S Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor (Health and Beauty)
This product was disappointing. I've found the accuracy to be poor. The readings have been wildly inconsistent. Because you take the readings from your wrist, the placement of your wrist has to be perfectly aligned with your heart - and it must be that way consistently to get comparative readings. It your arm is off angle by a few degrees, your reading will be wrong. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this product if you are really relying on it to accurtatly test your BP. The return shipping and 15% restocking fee by Discouint Jungle make a return impracticle. Amazon should not allow its merchants to charge a restocking fee for a product that fails to meet your expectations.
